Davíd-Marcelo Martinez Arévalo, known by film peers and credited simply as Davíd Arévalo, is a Puerto Rico born filmmaker, he was raised in the town of Ponce. For college, he attended the Pennsylvania State University (Penn State) located in the United States. This is where he majored in Media Studies with a specialization in Film & Television. He began using film as a medium to express views and ideas personal to him. David navigates the medium with many of the fundamental values of the analog era of filmmaking, auteurism in the international sense is a major force in his work, especially Spanish and French sensibilities of the cinema movement. At the moment he shoots medium format, 35mm and limited digital. He is experienced with both 8mm and 16mm filmmaking, and credited with such.
The ideologies and philosophies of his work relate to his personal understanding and experiences, as well as referential thoughtful ideas from the works of the minds he finds interesting - usually, he redirects the basis to a counter idea of ideologies of others, his own formed and created with perspective and analytical values.
He has a background in Film History and experience working in high-budget and low-budget productions. He is currently curating a book of testimonials, which he hopes to turn into a film. The project is based on one of his ongoing research topics in regards to the women of Puerto Rico and the legacy of gender identity in the island. His research also includes Postcolonialism, anthropology and the exploration of film as a medium for navigating and exploring cultural identity.
He lives in Paris, France. At the moment, he hopes to become a Professor of Film, with a specialization in International Cinema.
